PERMANENT ORIENTEERING PATHWAY

By the château and village of Hautpoul, run the Arnette river. The river was used from the immemorial time to activate the mills, such as the mills of Moulin Maurel, Moulin de l’Oule. An unproductive soil and the mountain structure do not favor agriculture; the habitants of the Hautpoulois need revenue that they found in the work of the wool.

The textile fabrication helped the expansion of the village who will become over a long period of time the town of Mazamet . The Mazamet’s population are protestant, and were well known for the quality of their work, proud of their work, they achieve a great industrial revolution by the end of the 18e century and early 19e century. The factories were located along the mountain to enjoy the water precipitation on which they could install their hydraulic wheels and turbines. There are 25 factories located on 4 km between Resse and the Moulin Maurel.

After 1851, a new activity progress quickly at the expense of the traditional textile industry, the new industry is called “delainage’ the treatment of mouton skin by the removal of the whole. The skins are imported from the south hemisphere, Mazamet become the first Mondial center of delainage. All the local life depends of this activity up to the end of the 20th century. This activity does not exist anymore in Mazamet.

At the feet of the château of Hautpoul, an old factory was renovated as a former factory and display a museum as well called the museum of wooden toy. Another factory collects the cleaning and the exportation of French skin. Few companies enjoy working with wool and skin.

The tower of the château trompette of Hautpoul at the medieval time are still apparent and domine the gorges de l’Arnette. Succession of roc formation, of cover oak and chestnut stingy diver, Martin fisherman and wagtail are the spices visible along the river. The side of the mountain and the top environnement are where the Circaète Jean-Le-Blanc, enjoys. The number of reptiles located on this field includes the favorite place of Circaète Jean-Le-Blanc wealthy reptiles vipère (aspic), orvets, lézards are well represented on this field.
